• Tenka used to be the leader of a group of child soldiers that were all considered prime vessels for the next incarnation of Orochi (giant killer snake) and he inspired everyone to believe in themselves and the cause blahblah WE’RE HEROES


• and then his mom and dad got killed by some dick ninja and Tenka became paralyzed and it left a hot scar but uh at least he saved his two younger brothers yay!


• then some scientists were like this is the perfect time to be crazy and inhumane and force Orochi cells into this young paralyzed child on the offchance they will heal him and prove our theories that the Orochi can stave off death which is the real reason we want to hunt it down and not cause of any heroic things!!


• so yeah it worked but then Tenka got the hell out of there cause fuck that and he decided his FAMILY IS MORE IMPORTANT NOW YEAH NOW WE’RE HUNTING DOWN CRIMINALS AND BEING CUTE SIBLINGS AND TENKA IS EVERYONE’S SUN AND INSPIRATION SO BRIGHT EVERYTHING IS CUTE AND FAMILY--


• oh oops Tenka forgot to mention that the Orochi cells were slowly taking over his body and he only has so many years to live as a human being and he sort of promised to die before Orochi took him over and donate his body TO SCIENCE, so yeah his execution happens and everyone’s sad sorry about that


• he also forgot to mention to his brothers that one of them maybe kinda sorta most likely is the real Orochi vessel sorry oops


• BUT THEN TENKA IS ALIVE AND ACTUALLY THE EXECUTION DIDN'T REALLY HAPPEN!!! because scientists are dicks and they like poking at his body or sthg


• ps that ninja Tenka kinda-sorta married/adopted/something-something also happens to be the leader of the Fuuma clan and the guy that ordered their parents’ death and basically a giant backstabbing pile of shit but Tenka doesn’t know that yet so that's gonna be awkward

Tenka and his role in Donten ni Warau can pretty much be described as a hot mess of ‘what the fuck do you think you’re doing stop that just stop’. While he started out alright as a kid with a hero complex and a positive sunny personality that inspired everyone around him to have faith and confidence in themselves, everything changed when the Fuuma attacked. The day he lost his parents, his mobility, his humanity, and ultimately his cause as a "hero", is the day that he became something like a twisted, hollowed out version of his former self.

Knowing that he would die and having experienced crushing despair and hopelessness himself he became determined to 'store up happiness while he still could' and shelter his younger siblings so they would never have to feel sad. ... and the way he thought to accomplish this was by essentially lying to his brothers, keeping them at a distance by never telling them the truth about Orochi or even his own body. For years he kept them in blissful ignorance while working on his own (more-or-less) to find a way to save the vessel of Orochi.

All the while Tenka perpetuated an image of himself as a positive, carefree, and reliable older brother that would always protect them and the people around them. As while Tenka does possess a naturally sunny disposition at the best of times he came into the habit of forcing himself to be positive and SMILE even at times when he felt anything but happy. At the same time he encouraged his brothers to smile away their own sadness and always let him handle everything in their lives, never once relying on them as he was the older brother and thus the self-made pillar of the family.

The only person that Tenka allowed himself to rely on from time-to-time was Shirasu whom he trusted a great deal, to the point that he would become angry whenever anyone questioned the ninja's loyalty to him. Though he very pointedly refuses to 'use' Shirasu as a tool, even despite the ninja virtually begging him to do so. Having been used as a tool by the government he has never approved of the notion that ninjas, or anyone for that matter, are merely 'tools' and not people.

Though for as much as he trusted and relied on Shirasu he still didn't tell him about his eventual execution, so when they took him away everyone who loved him were understandably shocked and upset to the point that they tried to save him... and he responded by telling them that he was thankful but they were wasting their time on him. So Tenka is trash, basically. Trash that doesn't understand how much he means to other people or why anyone would be permanently wrecked by his death. He believed that his brothers would be able to get over him dying and move on with their lives and be stronger than he was.

Turns out he was wrong as his 'death' left both brothers in such a state of despair and anger that it started a chain reaction of everything-bad-that-could-ever-possibly-happen-actually-happening. So long story short, the entire series would have gone so much differently if Tenka would have just told people what was up with him instead of being... Tenka. 

objective: One objective I'm putting on Tenka's list is definitely going to be "Using Others". Even though it's a vague objective it is also a really cruel one to give to Tenka who is very much an idealist and is very adamant in his beliefs that all people deserve to be treated as human beings as not as tools or experiment subjects or sacrifices. If the objective pays out in both a large mood and finances boost then he might be tempted or even pushed into going against his own ideals.
